Sturbridge Lion |
On the morning of Saturday, August 8,
1829, before a large
crowd of excited onlookers drawn from Honesdale and the
surrounding countryside, Horatio Allen climbed aboard the
Stourbridge Lion and took the controls of the first commercial,
operational locomotive in North America. A replica of the "Lion",| along
with other artifacts are on display in the museum in Honesdale. The

Roberson Memorial |
The former Roberson Mansion houses the
Roberson Museum and Science Center encompass' Binghamton Museum of Fine
Arts, Decker Life Science Center, Clayworks (a modern pottery
studio), New York State Heritage Area Visitor Center, & The Link
Planetarium, along with several historic buildings. Alonzo Roberson died
in 1934, establishing the Roberson Memorial Center. He had risen from a
carpenter to President of the Roberson & Son Lumber Co. and Chairman of
the Board of Marine Midland Bank.

Bundy Museum |
The Bundy Mansion, which houses The Bundy
Arts and Victorian Museum once belonged to Harlow and Willard Bundy.
Willard invented the employee time clock in the late 1800's, which
eventually evolved into a company know as IBM. The museum is a well
preserved look at Victorian life along with current and past works of

Zane Gray Museum |
Zane
Grey, prolific author of Westerns,

the Western Novel", lived in Lackawaxen,

1905 until 1918. Lackawaxen always held a special

memories, and was chosen as the site of his final resting
place.
Today, Grey's home from 1914-18 is preserved by the National
Park Service as part of Upper Delaware Scenic and
Recreational
River.

Roebling Bridge |
The Upper
Delaware Scenic and Recreational River
is the home
of the oldest existing wire suspension bridge in the United
States — the Delaware Aqueduct, or Roebling Bridge as it is
now known.
Begun in 1847, it was designed by and built under the
supervision
of Engineer John A. Roebling, engineer of the
Brooklyn Bridge.
The Delaware Aqueduct is designated a
National Historic Landmark as
well as a National Civil Engineering Landmark. The bluestone foundation
of another original Roebling
bridge can be seen in Hancock today.
Linking Hancock to
Pennsylvania, the remnants of the foundation are
still visible today
directly adjacent to the existing PA/NY Bridge in
Hancock. |
